The Blue Claws are SAL Champs

The Lakewood Blue Claws became champions of the South Atlantic League by defeating the Greenville Drive 5-1 in game four of the best of five series. Lakewood starting pitcher Korey Noles pitched seven innings and gave up only one run. Offensive contributions came from center fielder Anthony Gose who went 2 for 5 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Second baseman Harold Garcia went 1 for 2 and also had an RBI. This marked the fifth playoff game in which he has had at least one RBI. Shortstop Troy Hanzawa went 2 for 3 and had an RBI and a run scored.

This is the second time that the Lakewood Blue Claws have won the league championship. They also accomplished that feat in 2006. This minor league affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies is an indicator that the parent club has some future prospects who could be playing soon at the big league level.

Blue Claws Lose in South Carolina

The Greenville Drive defeated the Lakewood Blue Claws 3-2 to stave off elimination in this best of five series. The Blue Claws lead the series two games to one and need just one more win to become the champions of the South Atlantic League. Lakewood starting pitcher Trevor May pitched five scoreless innings before giving way to relief pitcher Jacob Diekman who started the sixth inning and gave up the tying run. He was then relieved by Luke Wertz. Greenville scored twice more in that inning and that was enough runs to win the ballgame.

The next game in the series is tonight in Greenville, South Carolina. The game starts at 7:05 PM. The starting pitchers are scheduled to be Korey Noles for Lakewood and Fabian Williamson for Greenville.

Boat Show at FirstEnergy Park Starts Friday

On Friday, September 18th an inaugural Jersey Shore Boat Sale & Expo commences at FirstEnergy Park, the home of the Lakewood Blue Claws. The stadium is located where Cedar Bridge and New Hampshire Avenues come together. The show runs from 11 AM to 7 PM. You can view new as well as used boats. Boat accesories will be at the site. Blue Claws Up 2-0 in Championship Playoffs

The Lakewood Blue Claws shut out the Greenville Drive 3-0 on Tuesday night in Lakewood. Blue Claw starting pitcher Jesus Sanchez pitched six scoreless innings and was relieved by Austin Hyatt who held the opposition scoreless in the 7th and 8th innings. Closer Santo Hernandez shut down Greenville In the ninth. An RBI single by Harold Garcia in the sixth inning accounted for one of the three Blue Claw runs and marked the fourth time in as many playoff games that Garica has had at least one RBI in a game.

The Lakewood Blue Claws go up 2-0 in the best of five series which now moves to Greenville for the remaining games. Today is a day off. The next game will start at 7:05 PM on Thursday.

Blue Claws Take the First Game of the Championship Series

The Lakewood Blue Claws have taken a 1-0 lead in their best of five South Atlantic League Championship Series by defeating the Greenville Drive 6-3 on Monday night in Lakewood. Blue Claw highlights include a long home run by Anthony Gose and a home run by Harold Garcia. Garcia also hit an RBI double and went 2-4 in the game.

The second game will take place tonight at 7:05 pm in FirstEnergy Park. That will be the last game played in Lakewood this season. The remaining games of the series will be played in Greenville, South Carolina.

Blue Claws are SAL Northern Division Champs

BlueClaws Win 9-0, Advance to Championship tells the story. The Lakewood Blue Claws defeated the Kannapolis Intimidators to take the best of three series in just two games at their home field. This was their second Northern Division championship and it enables them to advance to the league championship finals where they will take on the Southern Division champion Greenville Drive. Greenville is an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The first game of that best of five series begins on Monday at 7:05 PM in Lakewood.

Lakewood starting pitcher Trevor May pitched six innings and picked up the win by striking out eight batters and giving up only two hits. Sebastian Valle had a productive day at the plate with three hits. He batted in the first run with a single and later in the game hit a three run homer.

Blue Claws Win First Game 4-2

The Lakewood Blue Claws took the first game of the playoff series against the Kannapolis Intimidators. They won the game 4-2 behind an excellent pitching performance by Matthew Way who went 7 innings and allowed only one run. Way is a left handed pitcher from Alaska. The next game is in Lakewood on Friday evening.

Woman of the Year at the Little Theatre

Georgian Court University informs the public that the McAuley Community Center offers a series of American classic films. They even provide popcorn and beverages. The film Woman of the Year (1942) will be featured on Monday, September 14th at 6:30 PM at the Little Theatre. Admission is free but viewers are advised to make reservations due to limited seating. Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy are the stars of the film. The film is a romantic comedy with the two playing the roles of newspaper journalists. Hepburn plays a political commentator and Tracey a sports reporter.

The Blue Claws are in the Playoffs

It's playoff time in the South Atlantic League where the Lakewood Blue Claws play. The Blue Claws, who came in first place for the first half of the season in the Northern Division of the SAL, are in the playoffs. They will play the Kannapolis Intimidators, winners of the season's second half, at 7:05 PM on Friday September 11th in FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood. Rally towels will be given to the first 2,000 fans. There will also be a game three if necessary in Lakewood on Saturday the 12th and also would start at 7:05 PM.

The first game of the series will take place at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium- home of the Intimidators. The Intimidators are an affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.
