At issue was a law known as the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 which prevented corporations from expressing viewpoints within 30 days of an election primary or within 60 days of a general election. The Supreme Court agreed with an organization called Citizens United which argued that the law infringed on their constitutional right to free speech.

The Supreme Court ruling was attacked by some on the far left whose hostility to corporations is the stuff of legends. The Supreme Court wisely upheld the intent of the Constitution.

Home Depot now within Lakewood's UEZ

A section of Lakewood is designated as an Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) which enables businesses located within the zone to charge a sales tax of 3 and a half percent instead of the standard 7% rate. Obviously this makes businesses in the zone more competitive. The Lakewood zone was recently modified to now include the Town and Country Shopping Plaza. Within this complex is located the Home Depot.
